ABOUT

Afro Qwe’re is a visibility arts project for queer people of African descent. It is about celebrating queer people of African descent globally – the lives, narratives, expressions, works, bodies, identities and all. This project is aimed at capturing the intersections of race, gender, sexuality and spirit that we embody. Afro Qwe’re is also an effort to bring together community in solidarity - an intergenerational bridging of persons from all corners of the community. A project created around collecting, preserving, and sharing the narratives of queer people of African descent.

This project hopes to
- Contribute to documenting the narratives and legacies of our community.
-To share in one another’s histories, traditions and narratives with love.
- Utilize art - the photographic image and the spoken/written word- to build conversations around our experiences, our truths.
- Contribute to the collective works and resources that speak to healthy representations of our humanity and whole selves.

Most importantly, Afro Qwe’re is about love!
